Celebrating 8 Years of Marriage!

My husband and I just celebrated our 8th year of marriage this week, and we were very excited to find the opportunity to get away together. My gracious mother took on the role of grandma and babysitter for us, while we drove up to Starved Rock and camped out (without the kids!!!) Sometimes it's very necessary as a married couple to spend some time away from your children to really appreciate them.

I have to admit, that I didn't think of going camping for our anniversary, all on my own. I actually "googled" cheap ideas to celebrate marriage, and camping came up as one of the ideas! Brilliant, I thought to myself! My husband and I both love to camp, and what better way to relax and enjoy each others company than to do something we both enjoy.

I asked around to see what other people could suggest we do while we celebrated while going camping, and someone from church suggested that I bring some fancy glasses and a bottle of wine. Thinking ahead, I knew that we probably wouldn't be allowed to bring in alcohol to the camp, so instead we brought some good ol' Ginger Ale.

Here are some fun photos that we took on our anniversary camping trip:

If you're wondering what we cooked on this special occasion? Well, some simple items, really.

And to bring that hunger about, we went on a nice hike before lunch:

So, that's it for now, just wanted to share some photos from our anniversary!

Don't forget! Baskin Robbin's Tonight!

Don't forget (if you haven't heard yet) Baskin' Robbin's is having their $0.31 scoop sale/fundraiser tonight. There is a limit of 3 scoops, so load them up! Last year we only got 1 scoop the first time and then went in line again and they said there was a limit of only one time in line. Boo. Anyway, the event takes place tonight, Wednesday, from 5-10pm.

Here's some pictures of us last year at the same event. Look how little our boys are!

Find the Time

Today I wanted to spend a little extra time with my husband who has been working extra hard on yard work all weekend.  He cut the grass, while at the same time, mulching the massive amounts of leaves outside, while bagging them all up and putting them by the curb for a free pick-up.  (wow, that was a mouthful!)  Needless to say, he's been a huge help this weekend and I wanted to do something special for him.

After I put the kiddos down for a nap, I thought to myself, what better time to have a "date" with my husband than while they were napping?  I decided that since my husband was still at church, I could cook up a nice lunch and put together a nice table arrangement.  The more I thought about it, the less time I had.  So I quickly threw some leftovers in the oven and set to work on putting the table arrangement together.

It all worked out in time, and we had a great meal of leftovers and sparkling grape juice! I was surprised at how relaxing a lunch together in our home turned out!  I just needed to let go of the little details and enjoy the person that I love to be around.  And I could tell that he appreciated the thought just as much as the meal.

So take some time out of your busy schedule to enjoy the people around you that mean the most.  Even if  it is eating leftovers and sipping grape juice!

Goodwill Date with Hubbie

My husband and I got a chance to go to the Goodwill last night while Grandma and Grandpa stole our kids.  It was a surprise visit and we were happy to have them wisk the kids away while we had some time to ourselves.

And what did we do with that precious time???  We went to Goodwill!  I know, I know, we're crazy, right? We love the thrill of finding a great item or just the cheap prices.  (Don't worry, we also went out for a bite to eat at Panera as well before we came home to our kids!)

Anyway, here's what we walked out with:

4 CDs = $8

$2 Limited Dress Pants (50% off women's slacks)

$2 Daliha Dress Pants (50% off women's slacks)

$1.50 Liz Claiborne Skirt (50% off skirts)

We also snagged 3 cute blue baskets that I'll use to store all our art supplies for the kids, and I found a little shelf to hang in our spare bedroom (will be painted at a later date).

That's it folks!  Check out Homebody's Thrift Store Thursday for more fun posts!

Check out Restaurant.com

Okay, so last night I decided to check out Restaurant.com because they are having an 80% off sale if you use the code TREATS when you check out.   All you need to do is go to their website and type in your zip code, and it should bring up the restaurants in your neighborhood that have partnered with Restaurant.com.

Once you do that, then you choose a restaurant to your liking and then purchase a $25 gift certificate for that restaurant.  When you check out, don't forget to use the code TREATS (80% off code) and you could score a gift certificate for $4!!  What a cheap meal!

Want to make it an even sweeter deal?  Sign up with Ebates.com and you can earn cash back for buying items online!

My husband and I will be traveling to Ohio without the kids and I got $60 worth of gift certificates for $4.80!  What a steal!

Check out Common Sense with Money's blog, and get a better scoop on what I'm talking about.
